Circadian clocks are molecular programs that impart temporal
organization. These pervasive biological systems are responsible
for distinct and characteristic patterns of daily activities that are
observed throughout the nature. The circadian clocks have a broad influence
upon cells which can be evidenced by molecular rhythms in RNA abundance,
protein modification, and metabolic pathways modification.
Although circadian clocks are seemingly ubiquitous, they have rarely
been described in non-photosynthetic prokaryotes. The potential existence and
nature of circadian systems in this group of organisms was reviewed by Soriano et al.

RhythmicAlly: Your R and Shiny-Based
Open-Source Ally for the Analysis of Biological Rhythms.
Research on circadian
rhythms often requires researchers to estimate period, robustness/power, and
phase of the rhythm. These are important to estimate, owing to the fact that
they act as readouts of different features of the underlying clock. The
commonly used tools, to this end, suffer from being very expensive, having very
limited interactivity, being very cumbersome to use, or a combination of these.
As a step toward remedying the inaccessibility to users who may not be able to
afford them and to ease the analysis of biological time-series data, we have
written RhythmicAlly, an open-source program using R and Shiny.

CHRONOBIOLOGY IN AYURVED
– A PERSPECTIVE
Chronotype and
Prakriti type has the obvious correlation. Though chronotype is validated and
standardized by multiple controlled studies, Prakriti type is yet to get
standardized despite having multiple online questionnaires. Central Council for
Research in Ayurvedic Sciences (CCRAS), an apex organization for research in
Ayurved has devised standard operating procedures for Prakriti validation. Details can be accessed in the paper referred
below.

5. SITE OF THE MONTH
Indian Association for the Study of
Traditional Asian Medicine, (IASTAM) India is established to develop the study
of ‘Indigenous systems of Medicine’ like Ayurveda, Unani, Siddha, Yoga, Tibetan
and Ethnic practices that form part of ‘Traditional Asian Medicine’ with an
interdisciplinary approach. IASTAM has recognized the need to develop a
distinct methodology for study and research for traditional systems of
medicine. IASTAM aims to provide a platform and encourage activities for
systematic positive debate & dialogue and to evolve modalities to enhance
such activities across different faculties, cultures and streams of science as
well as within and amongst these systems.

signaling mechanisms that orchestrate daily rhythms in our brain, and how their
dysregulation contributes to various neurological and psychiatric diseases with
interests in the role of mammalian target of rapamycin (mTOR) signaling and
mechanisms that control mRNA translation in the circadian clock.

7. CHRONOBIOLOGY FOR PROFESSIONALS
Skipping a few meals with intermittent fasting may help people avoid cancer, diabetes, and heart disease

forms, but usually involves letting the gut rest without food for at least
several hours a day.

People around the world have known
intuitively for centuries that some sporadic intermittent fasting is good
for the body.
· Scientists now have some of the first
laboratory evidence about why fasting can be beneficial: it temporarily shuts
off the monocyte cells in our bodies that cause inflammation.

Dr. Miriam Merad, lead author of a new
fasting study, said two meals a day may be ideal for human health.

9. TUNE YOUR CLOCK –
GAMES / MEDITATION TECHNIQUES
Like
deep sleep, observing oneself also is also the best method for tuning of your
clock. Unfortunately, we are so much engrossed into daily life, we forgot to
take a pause and look as if we are looking into the mirror. Meditation
techniques are the possible way for witnessing yourself. You may practice
meditation either for spiritual experiences or for mundane physical benefits,
the technique will remain the same.
