Overview of ICER in 2020

Since its inception in 2016, Institute of Chronobiology Education & Research (ICER) is working with the goal of popularization of Chronobiology. With strong support from Late Prin. B. V. Bhide Foundation we are heading towards the goal.

It is worthwhile to enlist the activities of ICER during the last year which is no doubt the toughest for all of us.

- Preparation of Prakriti questionnaire with the help of panel of Ayurvedic experts (Jan 2020)

- Participation in an Exhibition organized by Vidnyan bharati (Kutuhal Feb 2020).

- Ankita Galinde, one of the first students, joined PhD program in Chronobiology at Luebeck University, Germany. (April 2020)

- Saisha Singh, completed her MSc thesis in Chronobiology (June 2020)

- Nikhila Kulkarni & Ankita Galinde collected responses from 150+ individuals about their lifestyle during the lockdown period (Quarantine survey May-June 2020).

- Covid 19 and ChronoPrakriti - A concept submission to AYUSH (June 2020)

- Biweekly webinar series 'ChronoPrakriti Talks' conducted from July 2020 - December 2020. Total number of participants = 70, with average attendance of 15 for each webinar.

- Submission of nasal sensor proposal to BIRAC BIG call of Department of Biotechnology (September 2020).

- Follow up of proposal of ChronoPrakriti submitted to AYUSH by meeting central minister Mr. Naik (October 2020).

- Textbook writing on Introduction to Chronobiology with the help of Mrs. Gauri Sathaye which will be completed by May 2021.

- Approval for Certificate courses on Basic and Applied Chronobiology at SP college which will commence from June 2021.

- Monthly newsletter ' Know Thou Biological Clock' published in all 12 months. An editorial board is formed which consists of past students. Total database 300+.

Home lighting and Sleep

Despite what our modern, fast-paced and increasingly urban lives may lead us to believe, the most basic rhythm of the natural world — the rising and setting of the sun — still impacts our health and mental well-being on deep levels. While artificial light may allow us to ignore the natural rhythm of day and night, numerous studies. indicate it isn’t without repercussions to our health.

Research shows home lighting suppresses melatonin production, impacting sleep, circadian rhythm and health. Adding to the growing body of evidence, a recently published study revealed that in 48 percent of homes, evening lighting was bright enough to reduce melatonin by 50 percent, pointing to a need to support melatonin production for better health.

Sleep & Chronobiology

Endorphin corporation is a Pune based counseling company providing personalized counseling sessions and courses on various topics. Institute of Chronobiology & Education is providing a customized course on 'Sleep and Chronobiology' which is focusing on sleep counseling through chronobiological perspective. For more details please check

https://www.endorphin.in/integrative-therapy/sleep-consultant/

Sleep/wake cycle is intricately associated with functioning of biological clock. An internal clock can be tuned by following strict sleep/wake cycle. The reverse is also true in the sense that sleep deprivation may leads to impairment of clock functioning. This course is designed for the professionals to become more aware about their sleep pattern and appreciate the central role of sleep in our wellbeing.
